I’m grateful for Jesus. He is the Beloved Son of God who gave his life for my forgiveness and rose again to assure me that I too am God’s beloved child. In the gospel of John we read, “But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or the will of the flesh or the will of man, but of God.”
I’m grateful for Jesus. He hears my prayers and comforts me in my struggles. Like the beloved hymn, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer …. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness – take it to the Lord in prayer.”
I’m grateful for Jesus. He calls me to share the inclusive love of God with my neighbor and the world. ” Jesus said to them again, peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit.”
I’m grateful for Jesus. When I feel unloved and alone, I look to Jesus. He has never failed me. He has never forsaken me. Friends may falter and the world around me may discourage me, but Jesus stays by my side. He promises: “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
My prayer today for you is simple. Lord, open our eyes and heart to see Jesus and remind us we have much to be grateful for. Amen.
Grace and Peace, Pastor Joel
