“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Very important to observe the little word “in” in this verse from Thessalonians. Paul does not say to give thanks for all circumstances but in all circumstances. Perhaps as we begin the Fall season at Christ Lutheran we can use this as a guide for prayers.

  1. Pray with joy! Much in our lives bring us joy. Focusing on joy will constantly lift our spirits and encourage out attitudes.
  2. Pray constantly! Imagine as you breathe throughout the day, you inhale God’s encouragement and exhale your frustrations. Your whole life can be an exercise in prayer.
  3. Pray with thanksgiving. Choose to focus on the blessings in your lives. Practice gratitude and tell God “thank you” for all God provides.

What makes these verse even more powerful is that the Thessalonians Paul wrote were suffering persecution for their faith in Christ. Paul indeed practiced what he preached. Add this thought to your September prayers.
