“So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.” (Galations 6:9)
This verse from Galations encourages us to persevere in showing kindness to our sisters and brothers in Christ, and also to those who mistreat us. But sometimes it is easy to talk the talk about kindness and not so easy to walk the talk. Jesus reminds us that those around us will know that we are disciples when they observe how we show love to one another. And an important part of love is showing kindness.
Dorothy Day (1897-1980), the cofounder of the Catholic Worker Movement, is now being considered for sainthood by the Vatican. Here is what she wrote about perseverance in faith and love: “The main thing is never to get discouraged at the slowness of people or results. People may not be articulate or active, but even so, we do not ever know the results, or the effect on souls. That is not for us to know. We can only go ahead and work with happiness at what God sends us to do.”
Sisters and brothers in Christ, perservere in faith and love! Make a habit of doing daily acts of kindness and love to those around you. It makes a world of difference.
