Last February we started our Turnaround Initative with church consultant Pastor Dave Daubert. After lots of conversations and prayer we are now beginning to put into action what we learned.

It’s true that genuine ministry can be daunting and just plain hard work. After all, we want to be involved in people’s lives, and sometimes that gets messy. Ministry chooses to stand with people in their time of great need and wants to offer support and understanding.

I was thinking about how I finished my blog post last week. I wrote these words: “Keep those sleeves rolled up as we continue to work together in God’s kingdom.” But I don’t want to scare you off. I don’t want to give the impression that ministry is just “hard arduos work” all the time. There is also great joy and satisfaction in working in God’s kingdom!

One of our Guiding Principles is “Serving gladly to make a difference in the world around us.” Recently a nice group of Christ Lutheran enjoyed watching a Boomers baseball game in Schaumburg. And it was a blast! Perfect weather and the Boomers won. That activity in itself was also ministry. Folks got to know each other better and we had fun together. I think God was smiling on us that evening.

So folks, do you enjoy serving God at Christ Lutheran? A favorite prayer is from Psalm 51, so I finish with it. “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and renew a right spirit within me.” Is ministry work? Yes. But it is also something to be enjoyed.
